Karel Zeman Masterpiece Bláznova kronika Restored by BRICKBOX DIGITAL MEDIA
Bláznova kronika (The Jester's Tale (1964)) is a masterpiece from Karel Zeman that fuses animation and live action to spectacular effect even half a century after it was made. The BRICKBOX restoration team main focus was on removing film artefacts that were a result of the film’s age and producing a spectacular two-disc special edition that offers not only the film restored in High Definition but also some fantastic never seen before bonus features for the release by FILMEXPORT HOME VIDEO.
The restoration team at BRICKBOX spent three weeks restoring the feature by removing scratches and dirt, colour balancing and noise and grain management. BRICKBOX’s audio department also restored the original audio by repairing audio dropouts and digitally reducing unwanted background noise.
The first disc contains the film named Bláznova kronika in 16:9 aspect ratio, the reportage ‘Bez pasu a bez víza z Kudlova do San Franciska’ which was filmed during the directors journey to the International Festival, from which the Bláznova kronika received two awards for Best Film and Best Director. On the second disc there are some fascinating extras, including the recollections of actors and the director's daughter Ludmila Zemanová, a unique gallery and text biographies. Both discs have Dolby Digital 2.0 Czech audio and include Czech subtitles for the Hard of Hearing plus English subtitles.
The Thirty Years’ War is seen from the point of view in this satirical slapstick comedy that combines engravings, old cartoons, montages and special effects. The positions of both sides of the religious war are fair game for biting satirical jabs. Petr Kostka plays a peasant who is pressed to join one side before being captured by the enemy. Lenka (Emilie Vašáriová) disguises herself as a jester to avoid the conflict and gives her comments about the pompous futility on both sides of the conflict.
